MISSION
STATEMENT
Pediatric
Dental Specialists, P.C., strives to provide the utmost in quality dental
care. The pediatric dentists and staff treat each child with great
compassion in a child-friendly environment. Our goal is to positively
impact a child’s dental experience to promote life long dental health.
HOURS
Our office
schedules appointments Monday - Thursday, 8:30 - 5:00. Lunch is
12:00-1:30 p.m.
Friday
appointments are available for children who require extensive dental
treatment or special-needs patients who are treated in a day surgery
setting. A pediatric dentist is on call daily, weekends, and holidays
for emergencies.
APPOINTMENT
POLICY
Our office
makes every attempt to remain on schedule throughout the day. We value
your time and will do our best to keep you from having to wait.
Pediatric Dental Specialists reserves appointments for your child
according to their needs and level of cooperation. Each child is an
individual, and some may require more "tender loving care" than others.
We ask for your patience, and that you keep in mind that your child may
be the next one needing our extra attention.
As a courtesy, our office will attempt to contact you for confirmation
1-2 days before your appointment. However, we do ask that
patients/parents assume responsibility for their appointment time.
Broken appointments or short term cancellations (within 24 hours)
without proper notification can be costly and unfair to other patients
who need appointments. Repeated broken appointments and short term
cancellations
may be subject to dismissal from the practice. Late arrivals cause
schedule delays for those patients who arrive promptly at their
appointment time. Late arrivals will be worked into the schedule if time
allows or re-appointed to another day. During the school months, late
afternoon appointments are in high demand. We try to honor after school
requests and ask that you help us by understanding when we need to
appoint during school hours. We will gladly provide you with a school
excuse for your child.

Conscious Oral Sedation
Appointments
An oral sedative medication can be given to your child to
produce a medically controlled state of depressed consciousness. These
appointments are scheduled during the morning, since no food or drink
should be given prior to the appointment. Some indications for conscious
oral sedation are dental anxiety, compromised physical or medical
conditions, lack of emotional or psychological maturity, nature of
procedure, and precooperative (child does not have cognitive ability to
cooperate) behavior. Our goal during these appointments is to deliver
quality care, minimize disruptive behavior, and promote patient welfare
and safety. Sedation appointments are very time-sensitive and of limited
availability. When these appointments are missed, cancellation of all
future appointments will be considered by the appointment coordinator.

Hospital Dentistry
In the hospital, children are treated under a medically
controlled state of unconsciousness using general anesthesia. These
appointments are scheduled on Friday mornings only. Pediatric patients
who require extensive dental treatment, or who are physically or
mentally compromised, are treated in day surgery. Full rehabilitative
treatment can be performed during one appointment. Patients treated in
the hospital are obligated to attend a health and physical appointment
with their medical doctor, and also with day surgery for other routine
tests that are required for surgery. These appointments are extremely
important and time consuming for our staff and the other medical
facilities involved. Cancellation or missed hospital appointments
without proper notification are not rescheduled.

Restorative Treatment
Appointments
Restorative dentistry involves mechanically removing parts of an
infected/decayed tooth and using dental materials to restore the tooth
for function. Restorative appointments are made based on the amount of
time required for the procedure(s), and the required behavior management
of the child. Our assistants have been specifically trained in
expanded-duty functions, such as administering nitrous oxide (laughing
gas), and placing preventive sealants.

Continuing
Care Appointments
Continuing care involves dental care maintenance, exams, and
professional cleanings. Our office consist of highly trained hygienists
that take great care in keeping our patient’s teeth healthy. After their
cleaning, your child’s teeth will be fully examined by the dentist.
Treatment recommendations are then made to address any dental needs your
child may have.

FINANCIAL
POLICY
Fees for
dental services are due on the date of treatment unless prior
arrangements have been made with our financial coordinator. Our office
accepts cash, checks, MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. We offer a
variety of options on extensive treatment plans that may better fit your
budget.
Insurance
Our office, as a courtesy, will file dental insurance benefits for you.
However, at the first visit, we request that the balance be paid in full
until we are familiar with your coverage, deductibles, and co-payments.
We will be happy to reimburse any credit balances from overpayment by
your insurance company. We will also provide you with any information
you may need to file your secondary insurance. On subsequent visits to
our office, you will be responsible for any deductibles, co-payments, or
balances not covered by insurance. Our office will attempt to call ahead
and inform you of the estimated costs of treatment, to avoid any
surprises.
Filing your
insurance is not a guarantee of payment for the service(s) performed. We
have no way of knowing if, or what, your insurance company will pay
until the actual claim is submitted. Therefore, all account balances
which have not been paid within a 30 day period become due by the
parent/guardian responsible.
Dental
insurance is meant to be an "aid" in receiving dental care.
Our office bases treatment on your child’s needs, not what your
insurance will pay. Insurance payment is determined by "UCR"
fees (usual, customary, and reasonable fees). These fees are not always
the same as our fees. Some insurance companies may pay less, some pay
more. Whether your insurance pays 100%, 80%, or 50% of a procedure, they
are determining payment based on their fee schedule, not the
actual fee our office has charged for the service.
Please keep
us informed of any changes or updates in your insurance information. Our
insurance coordinator has over 15 years experience, and will be glad to
assist you with any questions you might have.
